We are very hopeful for some strong, positive action on climate change from both Councils over the next three years. In Nelson, we welcome back the key drivers of the declaration of climate emergency, Mayor Reese and Councillor Fulton, both committed to action on climate change, along with 5 other Councillors identified by Nelson Sustainable Transport (Nelsust) as having climate friendly policies. In Tasman, we welcome Tim King as the new Mayor, who consistently referred to climate change through the campaign as a key issue for the region. Our Joanna Santa Barbara interviewed him during the campaign to assess his views on climate change.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have introduced ourselves to both Councils and expressed our wish for continued, urgent action on climate change. You can see Jenny Easton and Bruce Gilkison being warmly received by Nelson City Council here (from 18:30).
We have also, of course, welcomed the passage of the "Zero Carbon Bill" in Wellington and will be working hard to support the region to meet its targets. Watch this space! Comments are closed.
